MTA Summer Member Organizers

Dear Faculty and Librarians,

I am reaching out with a paid opportunity to work as a summer member organizer for the MTA in support of the Fair Share Amendment. The summer member organizers would canvas and have phone conversations about the Fair Share Amendment ballot initiative during 4-6 weeks over the summer. The position pays between $26 to $31 per hour for a total of $650-930 per week (plus business mileage). This is a great way to make some extra money over the summer while doing important work for our union and for public higher education.

If you are not familiar with the ballot initiative, the Fair Share Amendment is a proposal on the statewide ballot in November 2022 to amend the Massachusetts Constitution, creating an additional tax of four percent on the portion of a person’s annual income in excess of $1 million. The new revenue generated (approximately $2 billion a year) would be spent on “quality public education and affordable public colleges and universities, and for the repair and maintenance of roads, bridges and public transportation.” The Fair Share Amendment is polling quite high with roughly two-thirds of Massachusetts voters in support, so we have a real chance of passing this at the ballot box. If the amendment passes, it would be a game-changer for our students and our institutions, as this additional $2 billion in revenue would help repair much of the chronic underfunding of our public education system. You can read more about the Fair Share Amendment here.
