Early Retirement Incentive Proposal

Dear Full-Time Members,

On January 7 management contacted the MSCA with a request to bargain an Early Retirement Incentive for our full-time members. On January 8 the MSCA Board of Directors considered the request for mid-term negotiations and voted unanimously to authorize the Day Bargaining Committee to bargain such an incentive.

The proposal contains two “early retirement incentive programs” that the President of each university can choose to offer to members with 20 or more years of service. The proposal indicates that members who have submitted their intent to retire on or before December 31st would not be eligible for the programs.  The proposal has as a retirement date the end of the Spring 2021 semester.

One proposed program would allow a participant the opportunity to teach part-time at the university as a “returning professor.” These individuals would keep their office/parking/etc. at the university and would be eligible to teach up to 6 credits/year (8 credits/year at Framingham State and MassArt) at an enhanced stipend of $2500/credit. The other proposed program offers individuals a lump sum payout of $25,000.

You can read management’s proposal on the MSCA website.

Our Day Bargaining Team is asking faculty and librarians to fill out this very short survey in order for us to gather information about member interest in, and concerns about, the proposal. Please submit your responses by 5:00 pm on Tuesday, January 26th

We will be negotiating the proposal on Thursday, January 28th from 1:00-4:00 via Zoom. Members interested in being considered for a position as a Silent Bargaining Representative should submit their name here no later than Wednesday, January 27th by 5:00 pm

If you have questions or comments about this proposal, please contact the bargaining representative for your chapter.

Sincerely,
MSCA Day Bargaining Committee
