Negotiations

Negotiating our contracts as well as other employment-related issues is one of the key responsibilities of our statewide union. In this work, our statewide union seeks to integrate chapters and members directly in these processes. Each of our Bargaining Committees – Day and DGCE – include member-elected representatives and alternates from each chapter. A chair and vice-chair are elected from among these representatives by the committee members. The representatives are the voting authority on the bargaining team. The MSCA President and an MTA Field Representative serve as non-voting members.

In addition, our union has moved to adopt an expanded team model for bargaining. This means that in addition to our Bargaining Committee our team includes silent bargaining representatives. Any union member can serve as a silent bargaining representative. These representatives add an important addition to our team, providing immediate feedback to the committee about proposals that are shared at the table, and helping to extend communications about our negotiations to members outside of the negotiations room.

The following describe the current bargaining currently occurring in the MSCA.
