Work to Rule Continues

Dear Librarians and Day Faculty,

At its meeting on Friday, September 6, 2019 the MSCA Board of Directors voted unanimously to reiterate the union’s position that librarians and faculty in the day bargaining unit remain on work to rule.

What you need to remember is that despite reaching an agreement on April 16, 2018 (17 months ago) and a reaching a revised agreement on March 4, 2019 (more than six months ago) the universities still have not computed the retroactive increases part-time faculty are due.  In fact, the union has had to do the computations for the presidents to verify.

The Board feels it is unconscionable that the presidents have not addressed negotiated raise for the lowest paid members of the unit… for nearly a year and a half!

In addition, we are still trying to ascertain if the $250 per full-time unit member, that the Board voted to distribute to part-time faculty who taught in the fall 2018 or spring 2019 semester, were paid correctly.

What happens at the bargaining table is one thing, but this is much, much more troublesome.

The Board further recognizes that one of the most significant issues in bargaining –increasing the workload for modes of instruction other than lecture and seminar – has not been realized at all nine universities.

These are among the reasons the board decided to remain in work to rule at this time.

For the MSCA Board of Directors,
CJ O’Donnell
President
