Public sector unions, especially the NEA and other educator unions, lobbied hard to repeal two decades-old provisions that eliminated or reduced social security benefits --the Government Pension Offset and Windfall Elimination Provision. Now that the GPO and WEP are gone, our retirees will get their full social security benefits alongside their other retirement plans.
