Minutes of the Regular Meeting
April 4, 2003

Members Present:

Guests Present:
Arline Isaacson, Donna Sirutis, Robert Whalen (MTA)

Approval of the Orders of the Day and the Minutes:
The meeting was called to order at 10:05 a.m.

It was moved and seconded to approve the minutes of March 7. The motion passed.

President's Report:
The president addressed the reorganization proposals of the Romney administration. She was assisted by Arline Isaacson (legislative strategies) and Donna Sirutis (communications strategies). After a lengthy discussion and question and answer period, it was moved and seconded to endorse all demonstrations and lobbying activities at the State House on April 28th and April 29th. The motion passed.

Jean Stonehouse was appointed to the MSCA Credentials committee. President Markunas agreed to write a letter to those state college presidents who failed to participate in the CUPA faculty salary survey. Their limited participation proved to be very disappointing to the union leadership.

Vice President's Report:
The vice-president discussed his legislative plans and his intention to work with Arline Isaacson in developing effective strategies for the budget crisis.

Treasurer's Report:
It was moved and seconded to waive the seven-day notification rule for budget consideration. The motion passed.

It was moved and seconded to accept the delegate allocation for the MTA annual meeting. The motion passed.

It was moved and seconded to recommend the budget and dues to the delegate assembly. The motion passed.

The treasurer finished her report by answering various questions on line item allocations.

Secretary's Report:
No report was given.

MSCA Chapter Presidents' Reports:
The chapter presidents reported on activities at their campuses.

The College of Art noted that the plans for a new relationship with the BHE have been slowed down to give all parties a chance to weigh up any consequences that may result from a break with the status quo.

Committee Reports:
The standing committees delivered their respective reports and handed out materials when called for.

The meeting adjourned at 3:30 p.m.
