Minutes of the Regular Meeting

Approval of the Orders of the Day and the Minutes
The meeting was called to order at 10:10 a.m.
It was moved and seconded to approve the orders of the day. The motion passed.
It was moved and seconded to approve the minutes of the October 4, 2002, meeting. The motion passed.

President's Report
It was moved and seconded to appoint Susan Conrad (Framingham) to the Legislation Committee, Susan Edwards (Salem) to the Affirmative Action Committee, Stan Jackson (Westfield) to the Affirmative Action Committee, and John Ambacher (Framingham) to the Elections Committee. The motion passed.

The MSCA president appointed herself, F. Minasian and C. O’Donnell to the Employee Relations Committee.

It was moved and seconded to appoint the bargaining chair, B. Art, to the Employee Relations Committee. The motion was ruled out of order by the MSCA president.

It was moved and seconded that the MSCA Board recommend to the MSCA president that she appoint the day bargaining chair to the Employee Relations committee. The motion passed.

The MSCA president spoke to the chapter incorporation issue. MTA attorney Marcia Weiss and local chapter treasurers will be invited to the December meeting of the MSCA Board in order to discuss all concerns related to this issue.

It was moved and seconded that any MSCA Board member seeking a legal opinion from MTA shall inform the MSCA Board of such request when that request is forwarded to the MTA. The motion passed.

The MSCA president commented on the governor’s race, Social Security pension offsets, the BHE meeting, the ERC and some informational items.

Vice President's Report
(1 p.m.) It was moved and seconded to go into executive session. The motion passed.
(2:15 p.m.) It was moved and seconded to leave executive session. The motion passed.
The vice president was thanked for representing the MSCA at MCAD.

Treasurer's Report
The treasurer discussed the budget breakdown for the past month. She noted that there is money available for the conference sponsored by the National Council on Higher Education (NCHC).
It was moved and seconded to give $100 apiece to two recently departed MSCA secretaries. The motion passed.

Local Chapter Presidents' reports:
The local chapter presidents reported on activities on their campuses.
It was moved and seconded that the Board of Directors of the MSCA call for the resolution of the crisis in Iraq through international diplomacy rather than through armed conflict. The motion passed.

The meeting adjourned at approximately 4:30 p.m.
