1. Meeting Called to Order
The meeting was called to order by Paul McGee, the President at 2:15 p.m. in
the Heritage Room, Ellison Center.
2. Guest Speaker Nancy Harrington
President Harrington showed the new letterhead paper, signs, and logo for
the 150th anniversary celebration. Salem State students developed the designs.
The committee thought the material looked great.
President Harrington talked about House 1 that was to be released on February 6th. She distributed a news release from Governor Romney's office setting up the 6 competitive councils by regions. She is attempting to secure representation from Higher Education on the region that Salem State is in.
She also told the committee that SSC would be in a regional group with North Shore Community College and Northern Essex Community College.
She is expecting a cut in the state appropriation and if it is 20% that could mean a $900 increase in student fees. She did indicate that the cut could be anywhere from 10% to 35%. Her priority is to keep faculty in the classrooms. She feels the cuts will be from the administrative side, not from academic programs.
She also stated that September 2003 is still the target for opening Central Campus and 2004 for a new residential hall. This money comes from a different pool of money that the operating budget.
The number of students is up and the Academic Vice President search is underway and will continue this time.
After President Harrington left a general discussion took place about collective bargaining, and state appropriations.
The meeting was adjourned at 3:30 PM.
