Executive Board Meeting
9 April 2002
Approved May 5, 2002
01-02: 8

ATTENDANCE:
Billings, Buchanan, Burchsted, Cullen, Farahbakhsh, Gould, Hanrahan, Larson, Luddy, McGee (President), Sturgeon.

The meeting was called to order by Paul McGee, the President, at 2:16 p.m. in the Essex County Room.

1. Approval of Minutes
It was moved and seconded to approve the minutes of 18 March 2002, 01-02: 7 The motion carried.

2. Treasurers Report.
The Treasurer submitted the April report and a tentative proposed budget for next year. The tentative proposed budget was written as though we were getting no more funds this year and shows debt carried over into the new year. The Treasurer expects that an infusion of money from the state organization will reduce that debt significantly during the next month. The fiscal shortfall is caused at the MSCA treasurers office. Question from the floor: Who is the auditor? How is the Auditor chosen? How long has the current Auditor been in office? Is there adequate oversight? There was some discussion of how and when the new budget should be presented to the membership. It was moved and seconded to accept the Treasurers report. The motion carried.

3. Presidents Report.

- At the Delegate Assembly there will be a motion to increase the state dues by $50 a year. Dues were increased by $30 a year last year.

- The Community Action Network Committee wants the college to hold a teach-in to allow students to write letters to their legislators. Discussion: How to get the faculty up to speed on this process - talking points, issues, etc. Much discussion of the nature of a rally/teach-in followed. The Board asked the the President to hold a centralized teach-in on May 1.

- It was moved and seconded to receive the letter on PeopleSoft from Professor Susan M. Case, who serves on the PeopleSoft Advisory Committee. The motion carried.

Discussion of the PeopleSoft issue: Who decided to go live with PeopleSoft before any testing period, and with no backup software? We missed our legally mandated date to send financial award letters to students. There are problems wit transcripts which are not showing an accurate count of credits towards the degree, nor accurate minors or transfer credits. The new system was put on line afer the Wang system had been turned off and before any testing. President McGee will speak to President Harrington about this matter.

- There was some discussion about how a faculty ListServe should work.

Respectfully submitted,

Thomas E. Luddy, secretary
