Salem Chapter MSCA Meeting
Executive Board Meeting
24 January 2002
Approved 25 February 2002
01-02:5

ATTENDANCE: Aiyeku, Buchanan, Everitt, Farahbakhsh, Gould, Hanrahan, Krugman, Larson, Luddy, McGee (President), Raudzens, Sturgeon.

The meeting was called to order by Paul McGee, the President, at 2:06 p.m. in the Salem Room.

1. President’s Report.

-Pay raises are expected in March. Maybe on March 1.
-The Personnel Committee has met and evaluated the Chapter Secretary. They will report to the Board and then we can vote the appropriate action.
-Patricia Markunas has resigned from the Election Committee. Betty Dole has agreed to fill the vacancy. This appointment is agreeable to the Board.
-William E. Mahaney has requested a list of all the APR’s for the college for Spring 2002.
-Early Retirement is a downsizing plan. NOTE: For insurance, you need to go to Human Resources if you are taking advantage of the early retirement opportunity. Some discussion followed.
-Attendance: Faculty will take attendance once within a two week window later in the semester upon notice. Faculty are urged to comply.
-A proposal was made at the trustees meeting to increase the student fees by 35%/semester. 2001-02 tuition and fees are $3038. 2002-03 tuition and fees would be $3738.
-Vice-President Search Committee: Report from Arthur Gould. The search committee seems split in its goals between faculty and administration. The criteria in the advertisement has been changed this year, removing the criterion of classroom experience. Much discussion followed on this issue. No action was taken.

2. Treasurer’s Report.
The local chapter is $4000 short of our revenue estimates. Monies have not been forthcoming from MTA, which is in a “fiscal crisis.” We are not overspent, but we have debts we can not pay. Is it time to raise the dues for the local chapter? No action was taken.

The meeting was adjourned at 4:00.

Respectfully submitted,

Thomas Luddy, secretary
