Three opportunities to help reverse the #GICfail

Next week there are three events members may participate in to help reverse the GIC vote to remove 3 carriers from the GIC.

Tuesday, Jan. 30, 5 to 7 p.m.: An emergency meeting at the Boston Teachers Union Hall to work with colleagues and members of other public-sector unions to assert our power to protect benefits in the future. To sign up now, go here.

Wednesday, Jan. 31, 11 a.m.: Senate oversight hearing on the GIC in Gardner Auditorium in the State House.

Thursday, Feb. 1, 8:30 a.m.: GIC meeting at 19 Staniford Street Boston MA,  4th Floor to make sure the commissioners reconsider last week’s vote and find out if they are recommending any changes in benefits or costs. It’s a small room so you may be shut out, but come anyway so they know you care.

Member turnout at the January 31 event at the State House is the highest priority.  We need the legislature for short-term and  long-term relief from capacious actions of the GIC.

  • Short-term: Legislation that reverses the elimination of the three carriers.
  • Long-term 1: Legislation to increase labor’s representation on the GIC.
  • Long-term 2: Legislation to increase GIC transparency.

Member turnout at the February 1 meeting is also a priority.  The GIC has already responded to our direct actions. We need to maintain our pressure on Charlie Baker’s GIC.
