Bargaining and Legislative Updates: MSCA

Bargaining Update - July 16, 2007

The parties met on July 10th and July 12th, but little progress was made.

The Board of Higher Education and the college presidents have kept the same unacceptable proposals on the table that have been there since June 7th (five meetings ago). The only changes were (1) management dropped the demand for two more summer work days for department chairs, but withdrew its proposal to increase chair stipends and (2) the parties agreed to suspend discussion of "type of course" for a one-year contract,

The MSCA bargaining team has been told that if we do not agree to a one-year contract by August 15, 2007, the executive office of administration and finance will rescind its authorization for discussions on a one-year agreement.

The parties are next scheduled to meet on July 23, 2007.
