Gubernatorial vetoes overridden by Legislature

Both the House and Senate have successfully overridden Governor Romney's recent vetoes of retroactive contractual monies due the university faculty and staff unions, members of APA at the state colleges and members of AFSCME at all institutions. The veto overrides took place on Wednesday, March 9th.

Most notable was that every single Republican in both the House and Senate joined with Democrats to override the governor's vetoes of these long overdue monies.

The bill will pay the monies owed for the six months from July 1, 2003 to December 31, 2003. Still owed to the higher education unions are monies from the two years previous to this time period.

Thanks go to all MSCA members who supported their colleagues by lobbying reps and senators in support of funding these contracts and by working in legislative campaigns this past fall.
