Messages to the Membership-Pres. Pat Markunas: MSCA

May 23, 2008

Dear MSCA Faculty and Librarians:

On Thursday, the MSCA Bargaining Committee met with representatives of management, who reported that they have no received authorization for a financial offer to be made at the MSCA bargaining table. Our next meeting is Friday, May 30.

The Bargaining Committee has decided to picket the governor's appearance at a meeting with the Readiness Committee, a statewide group of about 150 individuals who have been working on the governor's plan for education in the state.

The meeting will take place on Monday, June 2, beginning at 6:00 pm at the Athletic Center at Framingham State College.

We need volunteers to picket and leaflet this event beginning at 5:00 pm on June 2.

We are working with other higher education unions on this action. We have commitments from the faculty unions for UMass-Amherst (MSP) and the community colleges (MCCC), as well as the state college administrators union (APA) to participate. Local, regional and Boston media will be contacted.

Our message is simple: GOVERNOR PATRICK, WE'RE READY! For a fair and equitable financial offer, for a contract and for a champion of public higher education.

If you are able to participate, please contact your chapter president. Additional information will be posted on the MSCA's website next week.

In addition, please call, email or fax the governor's office beginning on Tuesday, May 27th, with the message that the governor should authorize a fair and equitable economic offer at the state college faculty/librarian bargaining table.

Thank you for your support of these efforts to secure a fair and equitable contract for the MSCA.

Pat Markunas
MSCA President
