Dear MSCA Faculty and Librarians:
I am pleased to report that I have been asked by the Patrick/Murray administration to serve on the Higher Education Task Force to assist the administration to refine its vision for top quality public higher education, create an action agenda for the short term and put forth a governance structure to facilitate the implementation of the agenda and to achieve the vision.
The Task Force will meet weekly from now until the end of April. I am honored to have been appointed to it and look forward to this important work on behalf of our membership and our students.
am also pleased to report that negotiations for a successor agreement for the BHE/MTA day contract will commence on Tuesday, March 13th at Framingham State College. Additional dates have been scheduled for the month of March. After negotiations have begun, the MSCA Bargaining Committee will make decisions about the release of its initial proposals for review by the MSCA membership. In addition, the state college Council of Presidents has completed work on the 2006 update of the state college faculty salary study. As soon as this report is released, we will post it on the MSCA website for the membership's review.
The recently ratified BHE/DGCE contract will be executed today (March 12) and sent to the printers soon. Hard copies should be available on the campuses by mid-April. A searchable copy of the new DGCE contract will be posted soon on the MSCA website.
The 2007 MSCA Delegate Assembly will be held on Saturday, April 28, at the Massachusetts College of Art. Two proposed amendments to the MSCA Constitution will be considered, along with the FY 2008 MSCA budget and dues. Special recognition will be given to three chapter presidents who are completing their service to the union this spring. More information on these items will be posted on the MSCA website later this week.
