Messages to the Membership-Pres. Pat Markunas: MSCA

December 15,2005

Dear MSCA Faculty and Librarians:

The supplemental budget bill that contained the funding for our collective bargaining agreement was finally passed by both houses of the legislature today and has been sent to the governor for his action. He has ten days to sign the bill. If ten days pass without his action, the bill automatically is enacted as law.

Per an earlier message, no one expects that the governor will veto the funding within the ten day time frame. However, should this very unlikely event occur, we have promises from the legislative leadership to override the veto at the first formal session following the veto.

I expect that actual implementation of the pay increases contained in this contract will take us well into the new year. When we have concrete information about this implementation, we will inform you. There's no need to remind me - I won't forget to tell you!

Over the semester break, messages will be posted on the MSCA's website . My office will be closed at noon on December 22nd and will reopen at 9:00 am on January 3, 2006. No messages or email will be sent or received during this time frame.

Many, many thanks to all faculty and librarians who supported the bargaining committee's strategy and who followed through on numerous requests to contact Steve Tocco, Judy Gill, Eric Kriss, and local reps and senators. Your support and your phone calls/emails made the difference.

Happy holidays to you and your families, and best wishes for 2006 --

Patricia V. Markunas,
MSCA President
