Dear MSCA Faculty/Librarians:

As you may recall, legislation has been filed to provide group health
insurance and retirement benefits for part-time faculty in the public
higher education system. The community college union (MCCC)
sponsored a very successful Lobby Day on these bills last May, and
many MSCA faculty supported their efforts.

The Joint Committee on Public Service will hold public hearings on
both bills on Thursday, September 22, beginning at 10:30 am in
Hearing Rooms B-1 and B-2 at the State House in Boston. A briefing
session will be held at MTA Headquarters (20 Ashburton Place, to the
left hand side of the State House) in the sixth floor conference room
beginning at 9:30 am.

We need people to attend the hearings, to testify at the hearings and
to support the bills through emails and letters if participation that
day is not possible. The bill numbers are SB 1535 (health insurance)
and HB 189 (Retirement Benefits). For further information on the
