Messages to the Membership-Pres. Pat Markunas: MSCA

June 24,2005

Dear MSCA Members:

Thank you for your patience during what has been an extended period of time awaiting action by the governor on the funding of our new contract. As many of you have noted, the 45-day period for the governor to submit the legislation for funding passed earlier this month. Some governors in the past have taken more than 45 days to act, and we are willing to wait past the 45 days if necessary.

On June 22nd, we were informed that the Office of Administration & Finance demanded certain concessions before the funding process could move forward. A description of these, and of our decision to accept them, is contained in a letter that will be sent to all MSCA faculty and librarians in the day unit as soon as possible.

For the time being, we continue to wait for the governor to submit the legislation to fund our contract. During this legislative session, no collective bargaining agreement has been funded without a request filed by the governor.

Please know that securing the funding for this contract is the highest priority right now for everyone in MSCA leadership. Any gap in communication with you, the membership, is because there is nothing to report, or no action on your part is needed, or the situation is so sensitive and fluid that even commenting on it could affect the outcome of the process itself.

Thank you again for your patience and support during this unprecedented and difficult process. We will be in touch as the situation warrants.

Pat Markunas,
MSCA President
