Messages to the Membership-Pres. Pat Markunas: MSCA

February 9,2005

Dear Colleagues:

Attached to this email is a message from the MCCC chapter president at Qunisigamond Community College about a protest activity that is being planned at that campus directed towards the Board of Higher Education. This information will also be posted on the MSCA website

As you know, we are in intensive negotiations with a new management team, and the MSCA bargaining committee had not planned a protest activity for this particular BHE meeting. However, the MCCC leadership and membership have consistently supported our protest actions at BHE meetings over the past 10 months and I hope that you will support this activity on their behalf if possible. MCCC President Rick Doud has joined our picket lines and over 25 members of the Roxbury CC/MCCC chapter picketed the BHE meeting with MSCA in pouring rain in December, and a contingent of Roxbury/MCCC members escorted me to the BHE meeting in support.

If you can do so, please join our colleagues in this action. We are all in this fight together.

Pat Markunas

Subject: Feb. 17 BHE Meeting at QCC
Date: Wed, 9 Feb 2005
From: "Margaret Wong"

Hello Fellow Board of Director Member:

At the last Board of Directors meeting some of you expressed willingness and/or interest in supporting QCC's Feb. 17 effort to "encourage" the BHE to work with (rather than against) the MCCC on contract negotiations. The BHE will arrive at our campus between 9:00a and 9:30a (the meeting starts at 9:30a). We plan to have as great a show of force as possible in terms of a "sit-in" in the meeting itself and an informational picket to usher BHE members on to campus and into the building where the meeting will be held.

If we can possibly get some support from other MCCC members from other campuses, this effort will be more effective.

The Worcester Telegram and Gazette and the Boston Globe may be there as well as other news media. This is an opportunity both to influence the BHE and to get the word out there with regard to what has been and is happening to us.

Please spread the word to your unit members about this action and encourage them to join us if possible. It would be greatly appreciated. Interested individuals can contact me or QCC's chapter president, Marilyn Martin (marilynm@qcc.mass.edu; 508.854.4374) for more information.
