Dear Colleagues:
Tuesday, October 19th, will mark 478 days since the expiration of our contract with the Board of Higher Education. On that date, the BHE will hold its first meeting of the academic year at the Massachusetts Maritime Academy. We must take our outrage about the status of negotiations directly to the BHE.
The MSCA Bargaining Committee and the MSCA Board of Directors are asking that all MSCA members support our demonstration at the BHE meeting in at least one of three ways:
* participation in picketing to begin at 8:30 am on the Mass Maritime campus. Plan to arrive around 8:00 am, park at the Railroad Bridge parking lot and join the demonstration at Academy Drive and Main Street.
* attendance at the BHE's meeting, scheduled for 9:30 to noon, in the Bay State Conference Center on the Mass Maritime campus. (I have requested permission to address the BHE at this meeting.)
* sending an email message to Chancellor Gill jgill@bhe.mass.edu and Chairman Tocco stocco@bhe.mass.edu on October 19th that says: "State college faculty and librarians deserve a fair and good faith contract with a decent economic package. The BHE should not be prevented from making such an offer or from engaging in binding arbitration to resolve negotiations."

Directions to the Mass Maritime Academy (Academy Drive, Buzzards Bay, Mass.) - The most visible landmark, looking west from exit 2 off Route 25, is the elevated railroad bridge that crosses the Cape Cod Canal.
From the South: Take I-195 east to Route 25 east. Take exit 2 (Bourne/Sagamore). Coming off the exit, stay to the left side of the rotary and follow the sign to Main Street in Bourne. Bear right on Main Street for approximately one mile to the traffic light at Academy Drive. Turn left on Academy Drive and park in the Railroad Bridge parking lot.
From the West: Take I-90 (Mass Pike) east to Route I-495 south, which becomes Route 25 east. Take exit 2 (Bourne/Sagamore). Coming off the exit, stay to the left side of the rotary and follow the sign to Main Street in Bourne. Bear right on Main Street for approximately one mile to the traffic light at Academy Drive. Turn left on Academy Drive and park in the Railroad Bridge parking lot.
From the North: Take I-93 south to Route 3 south. Take Route 24 south to Route I-495 south, which turns into Route 25 east. Take exit 2 (Bourne/Sagamore). Coming off the exit, stay to the left side of the rotary and follow the sign to Main Street in Bourne. Bear right on Main Street for approximately one mile to the traffic light at Academy Drive. Turn left on Academy Drive and park in the Railroad Bridge parking lot.
