July 16,2004
Dear Colleagues:
In the wake of Frank Minasian's resignation as the Chairperson of the MSCA Grievance Committee, an emergency meeting of the MSCA Grievance Committee was convened today at Framingham State College to elect an interim chairperson to complete the term of office.
Seven of nine committee members participated in this election, in person or by absentee ballot. Margaret Vaughan (Salem) was elected to serve as the interim chairperson; Sandra Faiman-Silva (Bridgewater) was elected to serve as the interim vice-chairperson.
The MSCA Grievance Committee for 2004-2006 will be convened on October 8th, 2004, to elect the chairperson for that term.
Donna Sirutis, Gail Price and Lisa Reese (office secretary) and all grievance committee members present remained for the 90 minute meeting that followed, in order to review the status of summer and fall arbitrations, the status of the office, secretary, equipment and files, and other pressing matters. Some discussion was held concerning the short-term and long-term prospects for the grievance committee office and chairperson. I thank everyone who participated in this meeting.
It was decided to keep the grievance committee office at Worcester State College until October, 2004, at a minimum. Lisa Reese will work 50% for the MSCA and 50% for the Worcester Chapter. Other long-term decisions will wait until September or October.
Given the importance of this position and the need to fill it as soon as possible, I thank Maggie and Sandy for their willingness to step forward and assume these responsibilities. As I do with every elected and appointed official of the MSCA, I will work closely with both of them to insure that our members get the best representation with the least disruption over this interim period and during the fall transition.
Sincerely,
Pat Markunas MSCA President
