Dear Colleagues:
At its meeting of April 30th, the MSCA Board of Directors voted unanimously to communicate to the membership that we support the implementation of the SJC decision concerning same-sex marriage for members of the state college community and that we expect that members who choose to marry in the Commonwealth after May 17th will be afforded the same respect and consideration that existed for members who married prior to May 17th.
We have been informed by the attorney for the state college presidents that, at the direction of the governor's general counsel, a review of all state college policies and procedures has been conducted and that no problems are anticipated in the implementation. I have been informed by the MTA's general counsel that the union's attorney who specializes in state employee benefits is conducting a similar review and will keep us advised about implementation issues.
Any MSCA faculty member or librarian who, once married, experiences difficulty accessing the benefits of marriage at any state college campus should contact the local chapter leadership or my office. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Pat Markunas MSCA President
