Messages to the Membership-Pres. Pat Markunas: MSCA

June 9,2003

Dear Colleagues:

On Wednesday, June 11th, MTA will hold a Virtual March on the State House. All 98,000 MTA members will be asked to call or email their local representative and senator with a message to support the restoration of state revenues and increased funding for public education.

You are asked to try to time your email message according to the last digit in your Social Security number, but call or email at any time during the day when convenient.

1 or 2 between 8:00 am and 10:00 am
3 or 4 between 10:00 am and 12:00 pm
5 or 6 between 12:00 pm and 2:00 pm
7 or 8 between 2:00 pm and 4:00 pm
9 or 0 between 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm.

Introduce yourself and emphasize that you are a constituent, taxpayer, and registered voter.

· Tell them to restore tax revenues. Remember the 40+ tax cuts during the 1990's.
· Tell them to close corporate tax loopholes.
· Tell them to increase the sales tax, earmarking the increase for public education.
· Tell them that laying off state employees is not a way to help the economy.
· Tell them to stop destroying our higher education libraries by failing to fund them.
· Tell them to fund collective bargaining agreements.
· Tell them to stop "taxing" you with increases in your medical insurance premiums.
· Tell them to preserve educational opportunities by funding the colleges and universities sufficiently so that tuition and fee increases can be avoided.

Thank you for your help on Wednesday.

Pat Markunas
MSCA President
