Dear Colleagues:

Currently there is a considerable amount of concern and speculation about the impact of several Romney administration initiatives and actions to be taken on public higher education in general and the state colleges in particular. These include possible budget reversions for this fiscal year, the state of the budget for next year, and possible changes in the governance and organization of public higher education.

Please know that no concrete proposals or information have been offered or are available. However, given the new administration and the current state fiscal crisis, the MSCA Board of Directors held a joint strategy meeting with the state college Council of Presidents and a separate special Board meeting on January 16th. Both sides and all participants felt that the meetings were productive and beneficial as we face the challenges ahead.

A more complete report will be sent to all MSCA members through campus mail during the last week of January. Your local and statewide leadership pledge to be you informed and involved as events unfold.
