Dear Colleagues:

Within the next 7 to 10 days, all higher education MTA members will receive a direct-mail piece at their homes. The piece will contain two detachable postcards with a prepared message to your Representatives and Senators. The message implores these elected officials to stop any further cuts to public higher education and to raise revenues.

The House Ways & Means Committee is scheduled to release its budget the week of April 22nd. The latest rumor is that the budget will be released on April 24, 2002. Based upon past history, this date could change at any time. A rally to support funding for public higher education is scheduled for the State House in Boston, beginning at noon on Thursday, April 25th.

It is critical that you sign and mail the postcards immediately upon receipt and follow up the postcards with a telephone call to your Representative and Senator. The importance of the follow-up telephone calls cannot be understated - please take the time to do this.
