February 11,2002
Dear Colleagues:
It is still our understanding that the pay increases and retroactive monies owed the membership will be paid in the February 23rd payroll and "adviced" on March 1st.
Several higher education affiliates still have unfunded contracts. The Senate has passed them and the acting governor has pledged to sign them, but the House of Representatives has yet to take action on them. (Sound familiar?) MTA is sending out another postcard campaign to urge House action on these contracts. The MSCA received tremendous support in our "hour of need," and it is time for us to return the favor. When you receive your postcards, please sign them, put a 21 cents stamp on each one, and mail them immediately. Thanks!
The subcommittee on education of the House Ways & Means Committee will hold open hearings on the FY 2003 budget for higher education on Thursday, February 28th, in the morning at Bridgewater State College. I will represent the MSCA at this hearing, which is open to the public.
MTA is planning two State House lobbying days, scheduled for March 7th and March 13th. The State College Council of Presidents is planning a lobbying day for April 2nd. Details on these events will be distributed later this month and posted on this page.
