Dear Colleagues:

Last night, the legislature enacted our one-year extension pay increase of 3%, retroactive to January 1, 2000. (Part-time faculty will receive a larger increase.) The MCCC contract and reclassification was enacted as well.

The governor will need to sign the bill, but Arline Isaacson of MTA Governmental Relations anticipates no problems there. When that happens, I would guess that money would be in members' paychecks no later than the end of February.

Thanks to all of you and your members who made telephone calls to reps and senators at a very busy time of year. A follow-up thank you to the legislators, as well as Speaker Finneran and President Birmingham, would be appreciated. Thanks to Arline Isaacson, Jack Flannagan and Ed Sullivan of the MTA, who kept on top of this bill for us. Thanks, too, to Bill O'Neill and the college presidents who kept in touch with us and who lobbied for the bill as well.
