Salem Chapter Newsletter President's Message - Amy Everitt - December 4, 2012

Hi all,

I hope this finds you all doing well as we move toward the end of the semester. I have just a few reminders and updates. First, please join us tomorrow, December 5th , from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. for the holiday party at the Hawthorne Hotel. There will be plenty of great food, music and cash bar. I hope to see you all there! Also, please note that the Welcome New Faculty Reception which was cancelled due to Storm Sandy, has been rescheduled for Monday, January 28, 2013, 3:00 – 4:30 p.m., Marsh Hall, Room 210.

Do not miss your opportunity for professional development funding of $703.00. The due date for applications is December 31, 2012 in the Provosts’ office and the form can be found on the Faculty and Librarian Resource Information page. All full time faculty and librarians, including full time temporary, are eligible. This is a bargained benefit, so please take advantage of the opportunity!

The sabbatical bill has moved to the Senate Ways and Means committee. That means that it is one step closer to becoming a reality. Both the MSCA and the Council of Presidents are working very hard to get this passed before this legislative session ends. We still have no news regarding the ORP opt out. It currently sits with the IRS and we will keep you posted on any progress.

If you are applying for sabbatical next year, you should know that if you take a full year, you receive one half year of service. If you take a one semester sabbatical, you will be credited with a full year of service. This may or may not have implications for some with regard to years of service and retirement, but I wanted to make sure that you were aware of the impact. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me.

Finally, I want to wish all of you very happy holiday season. Enjoy your family, friends, and hopefully some time away.
