President's Message - Paul F. McGee
On September 12, 2000, the Salem Chapter/MSCA Executive Committee voted to return to governance. The vote was taken with the understanding that the College would fund Chair, Promotion, and Terminal Degree stipends and allocate $500 in professional development money to all full time faculty in a procedure similar to that followed in the Collective Bargaining Agreement dated 1995 to 1998. Academic Affairs will formulate procedures for the allocation of this year's professional development money.

Results of Elections for Committee on Promotions
The following four (4) members have been elected to serve two-year terms (2000-2002) on the Committee on Promotions: Maureen McRae (Nursing), Kathy Dow (Accounting & Finance), Margaret Andrews (Library), Mark Fregeau (Biology). Paul Green (Sociology) has been elected for one year to finish the term 1999-2001.

A Few More Committee Vacancies
The All College Committee and Library/Media Committee each have one vacancy, both from Area D. Area D includes all Business School departments, Education, Social Work, Criminal Justice, and Occupational Therapy. Full-time unit members who are not on leaves of absence this academic year are eligible to serve. Further, no member already serving on another contract committee (Curriculum, Academic Policies, Student Affairs, Graduate Education Council, or Library/Media) may be nominated. If you have any questions about eligibility please call the union office at x6366.

A new committee is being formed to make recommendations to the Vice President for support from the Vice President's Faculty and Librarian Research Fund. The composition of the committee will be (5) five unit members; one each from Arts, Science, Business, Human Services, and Library. Members applying for research funds are not eligible to serve.

If you are interested in serving on these committees, please complete the attached form, or email the chapter office at msca@salem.mass.edu. Nominations must be received no later than Tuesday, October 10th. If no nominations are received for the Vice President's Faculty and Librarian Research Fund in any area, an at-large candidate will be appointed.

Student Evaluation
Jean Stonehouse (Bridgewater Chapter President) suggested that unit members be given a form or model statement to place in their tenure, promotion, or personnel files. The attached document is provided to unit members who may wish to include a statement.
